Abstract
Introduction: In the immunocompetent host, cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is typically asymptomatic. However, symptomatic disease can also occur and will manifest as flu-like symptoms or as mononucleosis.
Case Report: We report a case of severe CMV infection in an immunocompetent, previously-healthy adolescent, male, possibly as a result of flood-water exposure in the South-Central region of the United States.
Conclusion: This case highlights the need to consider CMV infection as a cause for the presenting symptoms described herein, in immunocompetent patients
