Abstract
|
|
Introduction:
Impacted foreign bodies in the esophagus and trachea are a common occurrence in the adult population, with patients often presenting with a variety of vague symptoms [1, 2].
Case Report: We report a case of a patient who accidentally swallowed his partial dentures and presented to our Ear, Nose and Throat department nine weeks later despite numerous presentations to primary and secondary care. The four-toothed partial denture plate was successfully removed under a general anesthetic and after a period of nasogastric feeding the patient was discharged home uneventfully on a normal diet, on the fourth post-operative day following a normal contrast swallow study. Conclusion: This case reiterates the importance in obtaining a thorough history and examination in establishing the correct diagnosis acilitating prompt specialist referral and ultimately definitive management. | |
